So I work in Sunday school in the third and fourth grade room at church once a month. I am not a teacher but I'm definitely there to help the kids learn and understand the lesson. So it's always interesting if I truly take in something from the message. If you've been to kid's church lately, it's not exactly thought-provoking for adults. Not usually. They're usually...well... lame. But the teacher that spoke on Sunday of this past weekend really got my attention with something. She was talking about bad habits in our lives and how habits are formed from doing something over and over and over. She brought up how Judas had spent many years building his habit of greed. He had constantly been willing to do a little bit more for the money, and when it came down to it, he was willing to sell out his best friend for 30 pieces of silver! It just seems crazy to me that we as a society think that people just wake up one morning with a terrible habit. This is crazy They didn't wake up like that, they've just spent some time practicing. They've made a lifestyle of doing habitually negative things, one decision at a time. That's why growth is a goal in Christianity. Christianity is not just behavior modification. It's life transformation. It's a "one day at a time" type of lifestyle. If we begin to make little decisions towards being a better friend, a more positive person, more productive at work, etc., eventually these characteristics will become second nature, because they have become our habits.
