I miss being in high school.
Shocking, right?
When I was in high school, I was around the same people I had been getting to know and growing into a family with the same people for years. I had gotten into a routine. I had gotten involved in things I was enjoying. I was using some of my talents in cheerleading and feeling very strong. I was able to spend so much more time prioritizing my relationships with people. I was very close and connected to my friends from school as well as from other schools..
I WAS COMFORTABLE.
Now, I have gone through and graduated college, I have already become distant from several of my friends. My friends are getting married and having kids. I'm working in my field.
I'M A BIG GIRL.
It's not the same.
I was reading on facebook, and my friend Alex was reminiscing all these memories of him and my friend Brandon. I used to hang out with them after church every Wednesday, as well as various other days. Now, Alex is hours and states away and Brandon and I are working, and I never see either.
It just got me thinking: How do we keep our world connected so that it doesn't feel like our childhood since of relationships disappears altogether?
I guess we have to be intentional about it. Find those days we have off work and call up an old friend for lunch. Or (and especially if they are long distance), just call them to catch up. It is probably a matter of budgeting 30 minutes into your day for someone, but I know at least I struggle to do so.
Who are you thinking about today? Who do you wonder about? Who do you miss being close to?
